No name yet, but we are working on it!

This was an exciting month for Frugal Paradise! We had our first pet sitting customer, took a week long Alaska vacation, and added a new member to the Paradise Family. No, these weren’t all the most frugal of life choices, but they were right for us. In an upcoming post I’ll go over how we frugalized the Alaska trip and still had a blast.

Next month we’ve got a car insurance payment and our summer taxes, so spending is going to see a little bump. Thankfully the stock market took good care of us and really boosted our net worth. We’re keeping our checking account balance pretty high since we’ve got some big checks to write soon. Happy summer!

Total$4,250.54Total without mortgage was $2,531.54.
Mortgage$1719.00Just principal and interest.
Travel$562.73Some new luggage for our trip, a visit to the Chihuly Garden and Glass, a bunch of Uber trips, all the shore excursions on our trip, and all the souvenirs.
Auto payment$353.60Yes, we have a car loan. But in our defense it is at 0% interest.
Gift$308.72Two parents' birthdays
Groceries$267.32Much lower this month but we sort of cheated by being out of town for a week and getting a bunch of donated frozen food from a friend moving out of town.
Charity$250.00Paradise Family Pet Sitting had its first client this month! Woohoo! This amount isn't included in the total below since we just took the pet sitting payment and donated it.
Sports$190.00Next season of hockey for Mr. Paradise.
Doctor$174.78This seems like a lot of doctor visits...this is partially because I procrastinated paying any of my copays for four months. Oops.
Utilities$138.72Just gas and electric. I think the quarterly water bill is coming up next month.
Restaurants$77.75A bunch of random stuff, including one lunch in Seattle before our trip.
Pets$70.30What's that? The Paradise family increased by one member???
Garden$64.77Lawn spray and some pots. Our mint plant has increased in size by about 500%. Mojitos for everyone!
Shopping$50.00I bought an Amazon gift card on Prime Day because it came with a free $10 credit. Haven't spent it yet.
Cell phone$46.99We got Mr. Paradise a $19.99 sim card for our trip so that he'd be able to internet while we were gone. There's a couple of weeks left on it.
Internet$42.42AT&T, not Comcast!!
Gym$39.00Monthly gym fee - still going three times a week!
Security System$35.99I don't think we set it off by accident this month - hooray!
Home$30.61I just made this list half an hour ago and already can't remember what most of this is. $4.21 of it is a new wax seal for our toilet - exciting!
Entertainment$22.72Netflix, a crossword puzzle book for the airplane, and a couple of Steam games for Mr. Paradise.
Alcohol$14.28Two bottles of wine pre-cruise.
Personal Care$9.99

  1. I look forward to reading about how you “frugalized” a trip to Alaska. That seems kinda’ hard to do.
